Hippo Birthday!

School is still out but the twins are at band camp all week and I'm feeling like it's time to paaaarty!

Funny how fast things changed. Remember that time when I whined about being sad and lonely when the kids were at school? Ha! Not anymore!

Perhaps that's why I burst out laughing when I first saw that party hippo from the new LD Zoological. To think that I could actually relate to the joy it seems to be feeling. And school hasn't even started yet! Hilarious! (If you have not seen LD's latest collection, CLICK HERE to check it out now. I *heart* the party set!)

I can't help it. I just had to cut the Hoppin' Hippo out and of course, make a card with it.

Using Silhouette Studio (DE), I came up with another "Jin-Style" simple shaped card. I cut out all the layers from patterned, and solid color cardstock with my Silhouette Cameo machine. The greeting was printed on a sheet of patterned cardstock using my hubby's laser printer.

The card was assembled and put together using glue, tape, and foam tape (for dimension). I added Nuvo drops to the hippo's necklace to make it more interesting and made a tutu for her out of a strip of wired ribbon.

Here's the finished card:

{TUTORIAL} Mermaid: So Excited for you!

The countdown has begun. The kids will be going back to school in a few weeks and we are still trying to make the most out of the Summer break. We had initially planned on staying put and not travel this Summer but halfway through, we started getting bored out of our minds. On the spur of the moment, Hubby got some plane tickets and took us away for a quick trip to Taipei. If you follow me on Instagram, you would probably already know all about our vacation. If you are not following me on Instagram, just Click HERE to see what we did on our trip.

Our vacation to Taiwan was short and ended way too soon! We had so much fun we were sad to go. We took a morning flight from Taipei to Seattle on our return trip. After 2 movies, I still couldn't sleep a wink and so I started playing with the Mer-mazing collection that LD has recently released. It didn't take long to design the shaped card and I was excited to get home to cut and assemble it.

Using Silhouette Studio (DE), I created the card base by trimming off the top two corners of a 5.5" x 4.25" rectangle shape.

The card front is formed when I weld the rectangle to a shadow layer of the mermaid.

I added a sentiment to the card front and filled it with other designs from the Mer-mazing collection.

The card base is made by welding a flipped copy of the card front to itself. (Does that make sense? If not, CLICK HERE for a detailed shaped-card tutorial.)

To fill the card front with color, I used the FILL GRADIENT tool in the Silhouette Studio software.

I used print-and-cut to cut out all the layers of the card front.

I cut out the card base with my Silhouette Cameo machine before adhering the colored card front onto it. The mermaid was affixed using foam tape for added dimension.

I finished the card by adding some bling using Stickles glitter glue and Nuvo drops.

Get Your Ice-Cream On!

Last Sunday, I shared an ice-cream cone on Instagram and I thought I would share a couple more pictures, and some info on how I made it on the blog today.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BWoV5leAj0e/?taken-by=underacherrytree

The ice-cream cone is from the Get Your Float On cut project that LD released a couple of weeks ago. The original shape is that of a gift card holder but I modified and turned it into a shaped card with a sleeve.

After modifying the original shape, I reduced the resulting shaped card by 12% so that the card base can fit onto a letter-size sheet of cardstock. All the layers were cut out using my Silhouette Cameo.

Here is the finished card:

You Make Me Smile

For the first time in many years, we went into Summer break without any plans to travel. The past year have seen us traveling to several countries and so we thought we would stay home and relax a bit.

HA! HA!

It turns out that so far, Summer has been anything but relaxing. I didn't even sign the kids up for many activities but still, I find myself driving them around everywhere and being stuck in traffic all the time. Being away from my crafty toys has been rather depressing but thanks to Hubby, who offered to take the kids out, I managed to steal some time to play.

LD recently released the I Scream collection which comes with some scarily adorable ice-cream monsters. One look at the Cut Set and my heart melted at the sight of this blue fluff ball. Have you ever seen a sweeter monster? She is so cute!

Using Silhouette Studio DE, I came up with a quick shaped card.

I print-and-cut the card front that holds the sentiment, and cut out the other layers out of patterned and colored cardstock with my Silhouette Cameo.

Assembling the card took a while but I *heart* this monster so much, I'd totally make another.

Now, how to convince Hubby to take the kids out for ice-cream....

Jar of Light - a Chibitronics light-up card

School's out and Summer is in! The kids' last day of school was this past Monday (It's super late compared to the rest of the country) and so far they haven't screamed "I'm bored!" yet.

Woohoo! lol.

After our crazy 63-day, tour-around-Asia vacation last year, Hubby and I decided to take it easy this Summer. We don't have a lot planned for the next two months but I know that I want to keep the kids semi-occupied so they are not glued to the television or DS all day. I am hoping to do some fun things with them and card-making is definitely on the agenda.

While I am happy that the kids enjoy crafting as much as I do, I want to make things a little bit more interesting for them. Chibitronics seem like a great way to start.

For those of you who have not heard of Chibitronics, they are the company who makes LED circuit stickers. They are exactly what I needed to make light-up cards.

My kids were really excited when they saw the box of Chibitronics that I had ordered. While one of them was busy looking through the Starter Kit, I got her twin to help me make the circuit for today's card.

Credit goes to Twin B for putting the circuit together!

I used Silhouette Studio DE with my Silhouette Cameo to cut out all the layers that I needed to make the card. The fireflies were cut out of vinyl while the card front was cut out of acetate.

I had wanted a little more dimension for the "glass" part of the jar and so I cut out two layers of acetate to contain the fireflies- two bugs on the second layer and one affixed under the top layer so that all the fireflies are contained inside the jar. After I finished the card, I realized that one layer would have sufficed as the second layer didn't add much to the project.

Our favorite part of the project was when everything came together and the card lights up at the touch of a finger. So fun!

I am not affiliated with the Chibitronics company but I do enjoy using their products a lot. I love that my kids get to use some of their S.T.E.M. knowledge while crafting with their mother. I cannot wait to make more light-up cards with them!

Hello Friend! Just a note.

Back in the Spring, I started playing with the stamps that I have collected and never used. I actually made today's cards then but I didn't get around to sharing them. Today feels like a good day to finally put them up on the blog. ;)

These cards are similar in style and are super easy to make. I stamped the background, let dry, and stamped and heat-embossed the greeting over it. To finish the cards, I adhered the colored image onto the card front with foam tape.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may notice that I had actually posted the cat when I was playing with my Copic markers. I still have not used the "Pusheen/Unicorn frappuccino" and the Panda cutouts but I probably should, eh?

Anyway, hope you like today's cards. The sun is out and it is finally getting warm outside. I'm off to bask in the sun.

Talk to y'all later!  Muah!
